The Minister of State for Petroleum and Group Managing Director of
the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Emmanuel Ibe
Kachikwu has said that expatriates would be
recruited into the
corporation as part of the ongoing restructuring of the state-run oil
company for efficiency and profitability, This Day reports.
Kachikwu noted that there was always an emotion about Nigerians being
in charge of NNPC but insisted that the oil and gas industry was not
where nationals just take charge alone, stressing that “it is an
international business that requires international global best
practice.”

He stated that despite the general clamour for Nigerians to be
in-charge, there were certain positions in the NNPC that required the
services of expatriates, adding that the corporation currently has no
expatriates in its workforce. Kachikwu acknowledged that the NNPC’s
salary structure would not be able to accommodate expatriates in its
workforce but added that he would not mind going outside the system to
pay the expatriates.
