A Sharia Court sitting in Kano has, in a secret trial, sentenced one
Abdulaziz Dauda, popularly known as Inyass, to death by hanging
following blasphemy charges brought against him last August.
Inyass was arrested in Abuja and brought to Kano to face trial on two
charges of blasphemy and of inciting crisis which led to the burning of
a Sharia Court and some vehicles.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at a Maulud festivity
held on June 31, 2015 where he allegedly spoke disparagingly of the Holy
Prophet of Islam, an action which generated outrage in Islamic circles.

Counsel to the state government, Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki,
said that five witnesses, including the police, testified before the
Court. The defence counsel, who requested anonymity, refused to shed
light on the saga.
